Since his success with the Black Eyed Peas, Will.i.am has demonstrated that selling yourself can come with great reward. From the auto-hyperlinked name ‘Will.i.am’ (which redirects to his main website), to his pre-hashtagged songs like #ThatPower, the man is a genius at self-branding and complete commercialization.
His music, much of which is fairly bland and band-waggoned off of already successful artists (anyone remember that collaboration with Wolfgang Gartner?), utilizes key endorsers to el ...Read More

The return of EDC to New York for its 2nd year has now arrived. This year we physically will move to New York as Citi Field plays host (officially the 1st time in NY and not a “return”) and we’ll shine a spotlight on what each day has to offer with ‘Everything You Need to Know.’ We’ll break down what sets you can’t afford to skip out on and what we are dying to hear this weekend. Stay tuned tomorrow for Saturday.

It can be argued that this year’s EDC NYC lineup is a step down from last year’s, but that doesn’t mean we’re all not anxiously awaiting this weekend’s arrival. In a lineup that seems to have no rhyme or reason, and stages without themes, the place to be on Day 2 is definitely The Circuit Grounds.
As an updated from yesterday’s preview (click here if you missed it), a Venue Map is now available and you can check it out HERE
Also for those that are not attending SiriusXM’s Electric Area will be broadcasting sets from the festival. SiriusXM listeners will hear sets by artists including Afrojack, Steve Angello presents Size Matters, Dirty South, Nicky Romero, ATB, Gareth Emery, Cedric Gervais, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Rebecca & Fiona, Chuckie, Gina Turner and many more.

The Basics
To start, we’re waiting on a planned EDC layout, so we can get familiar with where each respective stage is. Questions still to be answered. Will the main stage be inside the stadium, will the stadium have any stages? And if you are still questioning if you should attend, just buy your ticket here and worry about that credit card bill next month.
When it comes to transportation Insomiac has laid them out in great detail, and with thousands of people heading to the festival each day, it is best to plan ahead. See Here. Things could get a little crowded on the 7 train and if you don’t mindpaying a few more bucks, the LIRR might be the best bet from NYC (plus who doesn’t want to keep the pre-game going on the train)[NOTE: You can't have open containers on NYC Subways] .
Stay hydrated! It could be a long warm day in Queens. Remember to drink plenty of water, which you won’t have to pay for at the provided free water re-filling stations. All other FAQ’s can be found here
The signature pieces of EDC are its art installations and rides. To further enhance the entire experience, there will be many interactive pieces across the festival grounds that are totally unique to NYC, along with those that have made appearances at past iterations of EDC.
Equally as exciting, to really put the ‘carnival’ into EDC, full-size carnival rides will also be scattered across the Citi Field parking lots, including slides, swings, merry-go-rounds and more. Best of all, every single ride is FREE and will be up and running all day and night! All of that alone is pretty exciting, and we haven’t even mentioned the music yet!
Most importantly make sure to tweet at us during the festival with your pictures and favorite moments! (@electronicoasis). [Cell service is usually terrible, so turn off the 3G and plan out your meeting points when the night is over in case your phone dies, so you don't leave any friends behind!]
Now, let’s dive into Friday after the jump! If we missed anything let us know!

Where We’ll Be
Ummm. We’ll be at EDC, duh! Leading up to EDC we’ll be attending the secret Savoy show. Thursday we head to Cielo for Gregori Klosman and our ‘Under the Radar‘ performer of EDC ‘Hyperbits’. Last chance for you and a friend to get on our list for free entry (here). We’re also getting 2 more people listed at Output as well (Enter Here). Friday and Saturday we’ll be spending the majority of our time at Citi Field but will be at Webster Hall for Brillz as well. Make sure to let us know where you will be so we can say hello!
The video for this sparkling, melodic single from Norwegian duo CLMD is as intriguing as the psychological condition it gets its namesake from. The film follows a young girl’s story backward in time, opening with a scene in Times Square that shows her happily with an older man and continues to reveal that he is actually her kidnapper. CLMD are Carl Louis and Martin Danielle, who teamed up with Kish and vocalist Frodor to create this progressive tune with a catchy chorus.
Bingo Players, the astounding Dutch duo released a preview of their newest track ‘Buzzcut’. Being paired with a sexy video of Melanie Iglesias, and a glover to boot, can you think of a better way to release a preview for possibly your best track to date? We can’t.
Sticking to Bingo Players’ usual style of electro house that’s extremely easy to dance to. ‘Buzzcut’ brings to the table some really interesting synths. From the buildup to the drop, Bingo Players bring plenty of new elements. The extremely heavy kick only adds to the track that is already sounding like it will be a masterpiece.
Topher Jones released his remix of Steve Aoki’s semi-recently released hit single ‘Singularity’. Interestingly, Topher Jones decides to ditch the vocals for this remix, yet easily makes up for it. While keeping a couple of the more memorable parts from the original track, Topher makes the track his own with heavy electro leads. These heavy leads, and some fun effects give this track the heavy energy expected in most electro house.
Topher Jones’ remix of ‘Singularity’ is available from the ‘Singularity’ remix EP, or by download itself. Being released on Steve Aoki’s record label, Dim Mak Records, and also on Ultra Music, this remix, along with the other, are sure to be played this summer during festival season! A full list of the remixes is below.
Goldfish duo, Dom Peters and David Poole, released the first single from their album ‘Three Second Memory’ and literally drowned us with this tune! The upbeat jazziness combined with Dave on the vocals make this track the musical motivation one might need to Take Back Tomorrow. If you are wondering how the two came up with such a unique name as Goldfish, it came about when Dave joked about Dom’s fantastic short term memory skills. Just like goldfish, Dom could remember tons of irrelevant information but was clueless as to where he left his car keys.
Electric Zoo recently released the phase 2 portion of this year’s lineup. It was announced that Gesaffelstein and Brodinski, Bromance Records’ finest, would be DJing back-to-back on Saturday, August 31. On Friday, May 24 they will give us a preview of their abilities by performing at Webster Hall.
Bromance Records is one of the few record labels who completely embraces their love for underground music. Their artists produce/DJ mostly techno, bass-heavy house and minimal, but thanks to their superb abilities they have been pushing the tech scene to the forefront of electronic music. This push has been anchored by The G-Man, more commonly known as Gesaffelstein. The creativity that he displays in his productions, such as Control Movement and Variations, shows that anyone can be a fan of techno music. On the other hand, Brodinkski’s DJing ability is currently unmatched by anyone else in the industry. Louisahhh is a nearly perfect balance of the two. Constantly being featured on Brodinski’s tracks, he brings a nice balance to Bromance Records.
Put these three artists on your label’s roster, and you’ll be able to compete with any label in the industry. Put these three artists on stage at Webster Hall, and you’ll have a great night of dark beats, and filthy dance moves.
Just four days before EDC New York and 3 months after the birth of daughter, Rainbow, Insomniac CEO, Pasquale Rotella, was informed he could face up to 13 years in prison. It is alleged that Rotella, and 5 other men, used “more than $2.5 million in funds from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to pay off city officials.” Gary Jay Kaufman, Rotella’s attorney, is certain Rotella will be found innocent, and is saying the charges are “politically motivated and publicity driven.” You can take a look at the full article here.
With the rise in popularity of EDM, you could only figure something like this would happen. Back in the 90′s promoters didn’t have to pay off city officials because these raves weren’t so main stream and publicized. Maybe this will put a lot back in check.
12th Planet is well known for his skilled production of dubstep. Outstanding representations of this prowess are 12th Planet’s collaboration with Antiserum for ‘Bass Salt’, or 12th Planet & Flinch with ‘The End Is Near Pt. 1’. Prior to that, under the previous moniker of Infiltrata, he produced drum and bass. It is widely known that he is a master at bringing intensity and fuel for hard hitting beats. Therefore, it comes as no surprise and is quite welcome that he has ventured into the trap realm to create more deep and heavy tracks. In his most recent endeavor, 12th Planet teams up with Mayhem for ‘Murdaaa’, which satisfies the trap aspects while operating under a developed trap undertone with a thumping bass. They tastefully sprinkled vocals on the track for an anthem that makes it irresistible to wobble to.
