More releases coming soon by Blacks, Killa P, and more!

We took a couple weeks off from the Monday Mix but we’re back in full swing! This week we’re featuring Yawn John, a local DJ who I’m sure all of you have seen play at one point or another. He’s been DJing a wide spectrum of genres for the past 5 years and is currently a resident at the No Rush weekly at No Fun in the L.E.S. every Thursday night. He’s opened up the likes of Jantsen and most recently Baauer, with some more big shows on the horizon. Keep an eye out for him in the NYC nightlife scene cause this guy is blowing up. Make sure to check out his Mixcloud for all his latest mixes!
Since the first Camp Bisco in 1999 (which had approximately 800 attendants and 16 artists), the event run by MCP and The Disco Biscuits has really grown and has been more and more epic with each passing year. This year’s edition, which had 20,000+ attendants and over 100 artists, literally outshone all previous years and part of it is all thanks to the lighting team including one of the head lighting designers (as well as Bassnectar‘s lighting designer), Michael Smalley. For the past five years, Michael has been helping out here and there with lighting at Camp. This year, he was responsible for designing the rigs, lighting, and video in the B.I.G. tent and the Main Stage B. The B.I.G. tent was operated ALL weekend (that’s at least 14+ hours a day for three days straight) by Kyle Kegan (Michael’s ‘protege’), and Sylvia Dowling (VJ Slim) & Miles Kondylasp (DJ Epicenter) who are co-owners of the Alanta-based lighting production company CLVR ATL and have worked with Camp Bisco for the past two years. We caught up with Michael, Sylvia, and Miles after Bisco to check out what exactly goes into creating the atmosphere for such a large scale event, their work in the B.I.G. tent, and upcoming projects.

This week, the Monday Mix was done by UK dubstep and drum & bass producer Eddie K. Eddie K has a very interesting introduction into the scene as a driver for artists like Mary Anne Hobbes and DJ Fresh back in 2006. He’s come a long way since then, having been signed to D-Style Recordings, Stereotype, and H.E.N.C.H. with six releases under his belt. In 2010, he released ‘Serial Killa‘, a collaboration with Minus featuring vocals from Beezy, which easily became one of the biggest dubstep tracks of the year. His most recent release ‘Dark Ages‘, also a collaboration with Minus featuring vocals from Beezy, has become almost an anthem for dubstep purveyors across the globe, seeing plays in countless mixes and on radio shows on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1 Xtra, etc over the past year. Check out Eddie K’s Soundcloud for all his latest original tracks, remixes, and mixes!

Back in December, original badman Coki released his stellar ‘Don’t Get It Twisted EP‘ on the DMZ label which featured bangers like ‘Think Your Gone‘ and ‘Celestial Dub‘. This August, the follow-up EP ‘Don’t Get It Twisted Vol. 2′ is being released and is already proving to be incredibly promising. The four-track EP will feature the tracks ‘Mid June Madness’, ‘Light Years’, ‘On Board’, and ‘Drop n Run’. All four tracks are super heavy and are reminiscent of a time when dubstep was influenced by DUB. (Seriously, praise Jah for the genius that is Coki!) ‘Light Years’ is also featured as the instrumental on Blacks’s track ‘Hold On Wait’ (see below for the music video that was just released today!).
