PLM Presents: Gramatik’s #digitalfreedom EP

By Tommy (@EO_Tommy) on April 4th 2012

Released off of Pretty Lights Music, Gramatik presents his latest EP, #digitalfreedom. The new EP features a more bass heavy Gramatik, a bit different from his usual laid back electronic hip hop based tunes. The Brooklyn based DJ is dedicating this EP to the fight against severe internet censorship bills. The hope is that it can somehow raise awareness and help to regulate the governments influence on the internet. That being said, The whole EP is available for FREE by clicking here.

Gramatik is currently co-headlining a tour across the US with Break Science that hits here in NYC this Saturday, April 7th at Irving Plaza. The show somehow still has tickets available so you can snag those here.

REVIEW: BFM & AEG Present Skream & Benga + Special Guests @ Best Buy 03/28

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on April 2nd 2012

This past Wednesday, Best Buy Theater was treated to one of the the most exciting line-ups… well, ever. Bass Fueled Mischief, AEG, and Scion A/V teamed up to bring Skream & Benga’s US Tour to Best Buy Theater with support from some of the biggest names in UK Bass: Plastician, Jackmaster, Hijak, and SGT Pokes. Interestingly enough, this was the least packed I’ve ever seen Best Buy Theater. The entire back seating section was closed off which accounts for at least 30% of the space and I STILL had breathing room up until Skream & Benga took the stage. Regardless, this created a really intimate vibe and it was really something to experience!

Hijak opened the show at 9:00PM, followed by Jackmaster who took the stage at 9:45PM. They dropped some AWESOME tracks, warming up the crowd and readying it for a huge night.

Plastician

Plastician took the stage around 10:30PM, playing a super intimate set of A LOT of UK vibes, old school dub, and some of his own classic tracks such as his ‘Bad Like Us ft. Doctor‘. I think he was catering to a lot of the more old school fans considering the demographic of the specific crowd that was at Best Buy Theater (including some big names like Keith Shocklee of Bomb Squad/Public Enemy/Power5, the Trouble & Bass family, the Dub War NYC family, etc).

Notable Tracks:
Cato ft. Doctor – Brap (Plastician VIP)
12th Planet, Skrillex, & Kill The Noise – Burst ft. GMCFOSHO
Emalkay – Flesh & Bone ft. Rod Azlan
Dismantle – Destroy
Trolley Snatcha – Make My Whole World
Buraka Som Sistema – Hangover (BaBaBa) (Caspa Remix)
Dismantle – Computation VIP
Flux Pavilion – Hold Me Close
Rusko – Jahova
Coki – Tortured

Skream & Benga w/ SGT Pokes

The dons finally took the stage around 11:30PM with one of the best MCs, Sargent Pokes. For me, this was when the party REALLLLLY started. Skream and Benga played a top notch set but who could expect anything less from these two. Their set opened up with Benga’s ‘Smack Your Bitch Up‘, something I’ve got really accustomed to since they’ve done that every time I’ve seen them. They even dropped an EXCLUSIVE surprise track: Benga’s VIP remix of he new track ‘I Will Never Change’. They closed out the show with Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name Of’, accompanied by a chant of ‘We are having a lovely time!’ courtesy of Pokes (no but really… I’m not kidding) and twin stage dives by the two. No Skream and Benga show is complete without their stage dives! But as all good things must come to an end, another Skream and Benga show goes by and all we can do is wait for the next one.

Notable Tracks:
P Money – Left The Room (Skream Remix)
Skream – XMAS Day Swagger
Benga – I Will Never Change
Rusko – Somebody To Love (Skream Remix)
Magnetic Man – Mad
Skrillex, 12th Planet, Kill The Noise – Right On Time
Buraka Som Sistema – Hangover (BaBaBa) (Caspa Remix)
Dismantle – Computation VIP
Flinch – Light It Up
Skream – Scrooge’s Revenge
Skream – Anticipation
Skream – Anticipation (Netsky Remix)

Dubstar Records released a 15-track album yesterday featuring amazing tracks from artists like The Aliens, Bukez Finezt and Unnatural Forces. Also on the album are heavy-hitters previously detailed on EO, including Megalodon, BadKlaat, and Requake. The ‘Lost in Space’ title perfectly illustrates the wonky, huge basslines and sounds these artists have made themselves known for. Some of the must-buy tracks are highlighted below. Dubstar Records is sure to have a successful year with more releases from these artists and EO will have it all covered!

Unnatural Forces – Meance

Requake – Pushback

PREVIEW: Brownz & Requake – Creep EP

By PDWYER on March 23rd 2012

Subway Digi 12011 Web 2 PREVIEW: Brownz & Requake Creep EP

Subway Music has just announced the ‘Creep EP,’ featuring Belgium dubstep artists Brownz & Requake, will be released digital only on April 9th. Requake is name that has been featured a lot on EO of late and they have been praised by most everybody whose opinion means something in dubstep. Their sound takes you back a couple of years, the rawness of it, that just makes you want to skank out and get your head nodding.

Three tracks are featured on the EP, which you can preview below through Subway’s soundcloud. First tune is the title track ‘Creep,’ a Brownz & Requake collaboration, and is the perfect example of what I just mentioned and the highlight of the release. The dark, creepy and crescendo of evil sounds featured are a great introduction into the hype around Requake and why Brownz is a young producer to keep an eye on. Brownz ‘They Don’t Sleep’ and Requake on the remix make up the final two tracks. A slower, murky track illustrates the Brownz solo production, with the Requake remix adding the extra badness. Subway Music has been putting out amazing releases from artists like our Monday Mix guests Taiki & NUlight and the ‘Creep EP’ will continue the success. EO will keep you updated with the latest these artists and Subway Music as well, as 2012 will surely be a big year for everyone involved with this release.

EVENT: BFM & AEG PRESENT SKREAM & BENGA + SPECIAL GUESTS @ BEST BUY 03/28 + TICKET GIVEAWAY

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on March 20th 2012

SandB 4x6 FOR WEB EVENT: BFM & AEG PRESENT SKREAM & BENGA + SPECIAL GUESTS @ BEST BUY 03/28 + TICKET GIVEAWAY

For the past couple of months, we’ve been talking about (and really impatiently awaiting) one of the sickest lineups to ever grace NYC. BFM, AEG, and Scion A/V have teamed up to bring Skream & Benga‘s US Tour to Best Buy Theater with support from some of the biggest names in UK bass: Plastician, Jackmaster, and Hijak. The whole night’s being MC’d by Sgt. Pokes (of course). The Wednesday night smasher is part of Bass Fueled Mischief’s Bass Week at Best Buy Theater which commences this weekend (see details for Excision’s The X-Tour here!) and ends next Friday 03/30 (with Mord Fustang).

If you’ve never seen Skream & Benga live, you’re definitely in for an interesting evening. Over the past couple of times I’ve seen them, they were having handles of vodka poured into their mouths (while they were still DJing mind you), throwing around claims of stolen CDs (“Who stole my f***in’ CD mate!? If you don’t give me back my CD, I’m not gonna play the tune!” …lol), stage-diving multiple times, and really just being all-around the biggest party boys. If you don’t go to this event, I can PROMISE you that you’ll definitely regret it. Grab tickets here while you still can!
