Electric Zoo Spotlight: Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano

By J-Brown (@EO_JBrown) on August 8th 2011

sjrm Electric Zoo Spotlight: Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano

Our blog has decided to give a profile of a different Electric Zoo Festival 2011 artist every other day from now on up until the festival. This is meant to familiarize those attending with some artists that they might not have seen before or heard of. I have chosen to kick off this mini-feature with my new favorite DJ’s: Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano. Not only are these guys beastly in the studio, dropping big-room bombs such as ‘Birambi’, ‘Climb’, and ‘We Are’ on Laidback Luke’s MixMash label, but their stage presence and ability to mix as a team is unmatched. Imagine 2 dudes dropping outrageous Dutch heat without the bleeps, and pair that with flawless mixing…Bliss. Check these guys out at the Hilltop Arena on Friday and listen to their newest release ‘Tribeca’ below. ‘Tribeca’ is comparable in structure to Axwell vs. Thomas Gold’s ‘Blow Up’ remix, but the main riff is a bit harder and consequently a bit more subtle.

PREVIEW : Gosteffects

gosteffects PREVIEW : Gosteffects

So I came upon this preview and though its a little unorthodox, I had to post it. I know absolutely nothing of Gosteffects but there has been some serious buzz surrounding the guy lately and had to check out for myself. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. These previews are all awesome. It goes on a full tour of electro, tech, dutch, and dubstep styles but all seems to stay to a particular vibe. I’ve bought into his music though and apparently over 13 thousand people on facebook have as well. He has 11 previews in the six minute mix and its hard for me to pick a favorite (though I do see Yeah, and You Are Mine being big ones). Out of New York, this guy lists death as his major influence. If this is what death is like, it doesn’t seem all that bad. No current tour dates are set for Gosteffects but expect to hear more soon. This guy seems like he’s only bound to blow up.

After his massive release ‘Selecta‘ alongside Afrojack it was time to do a little research on who this Quintino fella is. Turns out that when the dutchman was only 18, he was discovered by Laidback Luke and released his first tracks ‘Girls,’ ‘Wooker’ and ‘SupersoniQ.’ Quintino’s big breakthrough came when he remixed Cidinho & Doca’s track ‘Rap Das Armas’ in April of 2009. Here is one of his recent bombs ‘Raider,’ which aired on Dada Life July Mix.

PREVIEW: Drop The Lime & Bart B More – The Bass

By J-Brown (@EO_JBrown) on July 24th 2011

dtk PREVIEW: Drop The Lime & Bart B More The Bass

Wow. 2 of electro’s heaviest hitters pair up to produce a monster track. I have heard a bunch of DJ’s already supporting this record. I love this because you can clearly hear elements from both producers, and it works so well together. Both these talented producers run their own labels. Drop The Lime is the head honcho of massive imprint Trouble and Bass, and Bart is the head of Secure Recordings. This track is going to be released on Bart’s imprint. I am really feeling the disco-esque piano in the beginning of the preview, and I also love the synth that comes in at 18 seconds. It kind of sounds like Bart’s ‘Traction’.
