MONDAY MIX: Keith Shocklee aka Wizard K-Jee

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on April 16th 2012

This week, the mix was done by a truly incredible staple in modern music. New York-native Keith Shocklee aka Wizard K-Jee is an original member of the Bomb Squad (famed for their work with rap group Public Enemy, and their productions on 70+ albums, many of which went gold and platinum). For the past decade or so, the Wizard’s been entranced by the sounds of dubstep. In 06/07, he was introduced to the scene through his brother, and dubstep personas like the Digital Mystikz, Skream, Benga, Kode9, and more. In 2008 (one of the first years dubstep was represented at WMC), he and his brother hosted the ‘Bomb Squad Pool Party’ at the Miami Winter Music Conference, boasting an absolutely mental lineup including Mala, Skream, Joe Nice, Seckle, and Moldy. These days, Wizard K-Jee and Power5 throw bass-driven parties EVERY first Friday of the month at Brooklyn Fireproof in Bushwick, appropriately titled #FFF (or First Fridays at Fireproof). The nights are sponsored by JBL (yes, there is ALWAYS a full JBL sound system there), and DubSpot. So far, their roster of performers has been incredible and includes DJ Tamiel (Mad Decent/Brick Bandits), Bakir (co-owner/founder of Dubs Alive/TUBA), Rozi (Dubs Alive/TUBA), Zuzuka Ponderosa, DJ SEGA (Mad Decent/Brick Bandits), and many more. For more about Wizard K-Jee, check out the interview we did with him last week! Without further ado:

MONDAY MIX: Vodex

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on April 9th 2012

This week, the Monday Mix is by UK producer Vodex. At only 20 years old, Vodex aka Luke Earl has exploded in the scene over the past few months. In February, he released his debut EP ‘Generation Monsters‘ on Bassclash Records (review here!) which featured his top-notch tracks ‘Wolf Dub’ and ‘Python’. Shortly following that, he released his ‘Thunder Roll‘ single on Resonance Audio, and has had his tracks featured on other releases such as ‘Bassclash The Album‘.
This is Vodex’s year. He’s got some highly-anticipated releases coming up such as his remix of Eddie K‘s & Minus’ ‘Dark Ages (ft. Beezy)’ on HENCH which is already getting loads of plays from big names, as well as an upcoming release on Sin City Recordings. Without further ado, the Monday Mix:

Electronica Oasis’ Top Tracks of March

By kcerrato (@kevcerrato) on April 3rd 2012

Our top tracks of March are here; spilling over from a hectic Miami music week these are some of the larger efforts from producers all over the globe. Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Greyhound’ received an extra boost this release with help from Absolut vodka, while Laidback Luke & Wynter Gordon’s ‘Speak Up’ is now available after it was debuted at last year’s conference. Size Records once again delivered with Third Party’s ‘Feel’ a progressive take on Cicada. Axtone also holds onto a beatport #1 spot with Thomas Gold’s production talents consistently rising this time with ‘Sing2Me’. Nicky Romero assaults your eardrums with his single ‘Se7en’ among many tracks that are anticipated for release including ‘Metropolis’ with David Guetta and ‘Nictim’ with Avicii. Tech physician Joris Voorn makes our list with an enchanting edit of Lana Del Rey, while Afrojack maintains his signature bleep with ‘Fatility’. Last but not least Russian duo Matisse & Sadko appear twice with their Axtone collaboration ‘Trio’ featuring Arty, and their remix of M-3ox ‘Beating Of My Heart’.

Tom Tyger – Kronos District 32.0

By Tommybomb on April 3rd 2012

21 Year old Frenchman Tom Tyger just came went live with a slew of releases, including a mix for Kronos label, also works with Swanky Tunes and Hard Rock Sofa. Tyger has released a few of the most recent Kronos mixes, and they are all charmingly good fun. His mix bubbles over with that irresistible French touch, as some of the tracks he mixes in scream disco house all ova’ yo face. He also adds a few promos of yet to be released stuff, which includes a new remix of Qulinez, Dyro, and of course, his trumped up remix of Arty’s Trio.

This remix is balls to the walls robot and chaotic, and hella fun. It won’t go by the DJ playlists undetected and is sure to hit the airwaves.

Arty, Matisse & Sadko – Trio (Tom Tyger Edit)

Anyways, What makes this Kronos release so charming is that he restrains himself from using your dime a dozen house bangers that were played non-stop throughout Miami Music Week. He puts in original touches, making great use of Calvin Harris, mixing it with Tommy Trash. And of course, it wouldn’t be a French mix without some Daft Punk stuck in there, which is precisely what he does during the final stretch of the mix.

Check it out!
