REVIEW: BFM:BKLKN + SUB SWARA PRESENT NOAH D AT PUBLIC ASSEMBLY 03/09

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on March 12th 2012

This past friday, BFM:BKLYN and Sub Swara hosted a ridiculous night at Public Assembly in Williamsburg with a crazy line up of Max Mischief, Hellfire Machina, Noah D, and Sub Swara. Bass Fueled Mischief never ceases to impress, as they always live up to their name, and they’re always ALL about the music. (To be honest, I was slightly worried about this show as the venue was pretty empty at the beginning of the night, but it ended up getting PACKED before midnight and stayed that way until the night ended. It was an absolute party.) The night was MC’d by Posi-D, of course, who’s always really fun and is a total crowd-pleaser. (Did anyone else hear him sneak in a Chuck D verse? Haha.)

REVIEW: Dzeko & Torres and Hyperbits Headline Electric Beach @ Santos Party House

By J-Brown (@EO_JBrown) on March 8th 2012

Electric Beach at Santos Party House raged on Saturday night with fantastic opening and closing sets from promising NYC upstarts Hyperbits, and a headlining set from Toronto-based Dzeko and Torres. By 11:15, the venue was completely rammed and buzzing, as it usually is during the successful weekly installment at NYC’s newest premier EDM venue. Robert and Serik of Hyperbits played out their remixes such as Coldplay’s “Clocks” and The Killers “When You Were Young”, as well as their highly supported bootlegs including Wippenberg vs. Kaskade “Move For Pong” and Walden vs. LIGHTS “Brightness Breaks Glass.”

REVIEW: Phantom of the Cosmic Opera

By MichelleKUPP (@MichelleKUPP) on February 27th 2012

Cosmic Opera came to New York City for two nights last week in the debut edition of the three-part series. Created with the idea of incorporating the theatrical nature of the opera into an electronic music concert, event organizer Justin Cohen sought to bring a new element to an experience that has become routine for many road-weary fans.

More reminiscent of David Guetta’s extravagant ‘F*ck Me I’m Famous’ show, which the superstar DJ regularly produces in Ibiza and recently brought to NYC, than an actual opera, Cosmic had the feeling of an adult circus in a space dripping with roving costumed performers and ribbon dancers dangling from the soaring ceilings of Hammerstein Ballroom.

Ahead of Friday’s show German producer and DJ Thomas Gold, who opened for headliner and Swedish House Mafia member Axwell, expressed his anticipation for the uniqueness of Cosmic Opera’s promised production. Gold also let on about a specially edited opening track made to match the melodic nature of the opera – which turned out to be a re-work of his already beautiful instrumental remix of Lady Gaga – Judas.

REVIEW: Girls & Boys Present Dub Police @ Webster Hall 02/24

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on February 27th 2012

This past Friday, Girls & Boys brought an incredibly talented group of artists to Webster Hall: D1, Subscape, Caspa, and Trolley Snatcha of the Dub Police record label. A lot of people think that nights dedicated to solely dubstep DJs are little repetitive and not worth it, but these guys really stepped up to the plate. When I first saw the stage, I noticed the table was filled with CDJs, decks, AND NO LAPTOPS! Not a single laptop was brought on stage the entire night (each producer did come on stage with a GIGANTIC binder of CDs though!) which I can definitely respect. The theme song for the night was Caspa’s remix of Buraka Som Sistema’s Hangover, one of the hugest tunes out right now.

REVIEW: Sasha @ Cielo 2.19.12

By J-Brown (@EO_JBrown) on February 24th 2012

*This review was submitted by my good friend Nicole Palazzo*

I was recently introduced to legendary DJ Sasha’s music within the past year, despite his massive relevance to EDM since the 80’s.  After experiencing his larger-than-life “Never Say Never” boat party on the 4th of July in 2011, I knew from then on that I would forever be a Sasha fan. When I found out that DANCE.HERE.NOW was bringing Sasha to Cielo, the undisputed best party spot in NYC, I knew I had to be there. As the party was completely sold out in advance, my crew and I decided to set off early, so that we didn’t waste any time stuck in a line. We luckily made it inside in time to check out Taimur and Fahad; who are two local DJ’s, as well as founders of Blkmarket Membership. This was not the first time the duo opened for DJ Sasha, as they had the privilege before, in November of 2009.  Taimur & Fahad did not did not disappoint as the entire club was warmed up and dancing by the time Sasha took the decks. Ken Loi – Play Me EP

By MichelleKUPP (@MichelleKUPP) on February 21st 2012

After a successful year producing bootlegs of high acclaim, West Coaster Ken Loi is putting his medical equipment aside, at least for the moment, to release his first EP on NY based label Big Beat Records.

Ken was not only named Tiësto’s Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2011 on his DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ poll, Ken has also been opening for Tiësto in the past few months.

The six-track EP is full of hard-hitting electro heavy riffs that will give listeners pause. The melodic ‘Hands Up’ will draw you in through an expansive and enveloping lead in that culminates in thumping drum bass that may make you think of a Laidback Luke-esque chorus. Do not hesitate to show your support for this up and coming American producer – 2012 is going to be a year when Ken Loi shines.

REVIEW: Taiki & NUlight’s ‘Coming Up’ EP

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on February 21st 2012

This is the year for Taiki & NUlight. They’ve already been incredibly busy playing gigs all around Europe (including some festivals this summer). Their tracks have been played by some of the hugest names in dubstep. They’ve had releases announced on Benga Beats, Sin City Recordings, Biscuit Factory Records, and yesterday, they released their ‘Coming Up’ EP on Subway Music. I cannot even begin to explain how good this EP is. The first track (and one of my favorites), ‘Coming Up’, has a beautiful asian-influenced intro but don’t be fooled! The track quickly turns into a dirty tune guaranteed to get any room full of people bumping and grinding. Another favorite track of mine is ‘Impulse’ which is super dark and again super dirty. You should definitely keep an ear out for these guys.. they’re going to be huge.

REVIEW: Vodex’s ‘Generation Monsters’ EP

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on February 20th 2012

UK dubstep producer Vodex (aka Luke Earl) only started producing dubstep a little over a year ago but that doesn’t mean he isn’t exceptional at what he does. Over the past couple of months, he’s dropped so many bangers on us and has gained support from huge names such as Hatcha, Coki, Emalkay, and Eddie K. Today, he released his ‘Generation Monsters’ EP on BassClash Records and it is absolutely incredible. ‘Generation Monsters’ consists of five of the darkest and dirtiest tracks you’ve ever heard, my personal favorite being the title track. Vodex is definitely a name you should look out for in 2012! With more upcoming releases on BassClash Records, and Sin City Recordings, this is going to be a big year for him.

Don’t forget to check out a free download he also released today!

REVIEW: BFM Presents MartyParty @ Drom w/ Hellfire Machina + Special Guests

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on February 20th 2012

Over the past year, Bass Fueled Mischief have been bringing some of the hugest names in bass to NYC including Chase & Status, Designer Drugs, Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, Zeds Dead, Mt. Eden, Funtcase, etc, and this weekend was no different. On Friday night, BFM brought a SICK lineup (and a huge crowd of sweaty, vibing, bass-loving party animals) to lower east side club Drom. The event sold out a short time after doors opened!

Around 11pm, BFM’s own Max Mischief, and the MC of the night Posi-D, took the stage and really riled up the crowd. The event didn’t even until the wee hours of the morning, closing after 4am with NEOREV.

REVIEW: Benny Benassi @ Lavo 2.16.12

By kcerrato (@kevcerrato) on February 20th 2012

The dancefloor of Lavo NY was packed this Thursday for Benny Benassi kicking off the weekend’s festivities. Glowsticks and sunglasses were passed around as Benny made his way to the decks for a post-Grammy celebration (Skrillex winning best remixed recording for ‘Cinema‘ featuring Gary Go) and began the onslaught of both new and old tracks.

REVIEW: The End Is Near @ Webster Hall

By CDELPERCIO (@cdelpercio_EO) on February 13th 2012

Webster Hall‘s weekly Friday (and sometimes more often than that since there just aren’t enough Fridays in the year!) night electronic dance music party, Girls & Boys, has consistently booked some really stellar acts over the past couple of years and this past weekend was no different. Scion A/V and Girls & Boys brought dubstep bigwig 12th Planet‘s ‘The End is Near’ Tour with Kastle, Flinch, and Kill The Noise to the NYC venue. (Music aside, they also had some pretty sick merch for sale at the show! One lucky fan even got to meet 12th Planet and the gang courtesy of Hex.) To say they rocked the house is a complete understatement as even Alex English (creator of Girls & Boys, and Webster resident DJ) was worried the floor would fall through.

REVIEW: Matt Lange, Zack Roth & Hyperbits @ Sub Mission: National Underground

By J-Brown (@EO_JBrown) on February 9th 2012

A new party has recently been launched at National Underground. This past weekend saw Anjunadeep mainstay Matt Lange, NYC favorite Zack Roth, and promising up and comers Hyperbits put on some awesome sets all the way until 6 am. At this party you can expect deep and techy tracks, an extremely intimate setting with an accessible bar to match, and an awesomely punchy sound system that fills the room perfectly. Matt Lange played a great set that spanned the entire EDM spectrum: everything from tech trance to drum and bass was covered, and he did so in an extremely tasteful way. Here is a short clip of Matt headlining the night.

Zack Roth also played a diverse set, and incorporated tracks like Trisco – ‘Musak’ (Paul Thomas Remix) and Daniel Portman – ‘Play My C*nt’. Check out a video of Zack in the heart of the night here. You might remember Zack from playing at NYC’s premier festival, Electric Zoo. He will also be playing at District 36 this weekend so check him out!

Hyperbits closed out the night with massive tunes like ‘Drift’ by Adam K & Funkagenda, along with the classic Tiesto remake ‘Lethal Industry’ by Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano. Here is a quick dose of Hyperbits dropping one of their personal favorites, ‘Orchids’ by Erik Strong. These guys are really making a big name for themselves, and have recently had their Wippenberg vs. Kaskade bootleg surpass 11,000 plays on Souncloud!

You can soon expect to hear big acts like Tommy 4 7 (of Chris Liebing’s CLR label), DJ ECO, and Breakfast inhabiting the EDM dungeon that is National Underground. Keep an eye out for this party, as it is starting to generate legitimate buzz. For some pictures from last Friday’s late night, hit read more!
