Ferry Corsten Celebrates 250 Countdowns For Eight Hours Live On SiriusXM

Despite its compact size the “fishbowl” studio located in middle of the hubbub that is SiriusXM radio in midtown NYC buzzed with an air of excitement during Ferry Corsten’s honorary eight hour residency.

To celebrate 250 Corsten’s Countdowns, the gracious Dutch trance producer stood proud above his decks for an attention grabbing marathon daytime set. Surrounded by fans, supporters and Electric Area radio hosts, Ferry joked and spun his way through the day, never once taking a seat to rest. For Ferry however this way clearly not a chore, but rather a joy and honor be hosting this memorable event right in the heart of NYC, in the offices of what is arguably the most influential dance music station in the US.

Spanning decades, genres and continents Ferry played the best of the best from his 250 weekly countdowns. With requests taken for first seven hours from all of his fans, Ferry humbly let those listening take command. For the final hour, he put on the top 10 tracks from the day overall, chosen by fans. Of course all of the choices were euphoric and dance inducing, but the top three took the cake (of which there was a lot in the studio!) Number three was Ferry’s bootleg mix of BT – The Force Of Gravity, followed by his track with Betsie Larkin ‘Made Of Love,’ which trended not once but twice on Twitter during the day. Then, in an ode to classic trance royalty, the listeners chose Markus Schulz vs. Ferry Corsten – Loops & Things, which the unstoppable duo created in Miami a few short weeks ago, and enjoyed its world wide debut earlier in the day.

A natural on the mic ferry entertained shout outs from fellow producers including Markus Schultz (twice!) W&W, Jacob van Hage and more. Seamlessly engaging with those in the room and those listening from 50 countries world wide, it was clear that he truly and utterly loves his chosen profession. Giving thanks to those in attendance he said “you’re not 15,000, but you’re great!!”

With shouts of “Ferry, Ferry” periodically erupting and vocalist Betsie Larkin joining in for the first rendition of ‘Made Of Love,’ the atmosphere was jovial and the unplanned moments only added to the spirit of celebration. And then, even after eight hours endlessly playing music, Ferry then took the time to pose with every single fan, in a sign of true classiness and appreciation.

The countdown will be replayed at http://live.corstenscountdown.com/ so stay tuned for your chance to listen in again if you missed even a minute of Ferry’s eight hours broadcasting live from high above the crowded streets of NYC. Also, don’t forget to enter to win tickets to see Ferry tomorrow at Pacha NYC!

Tritonal – Piercing The Quiet (Extended Mixes)

By Joey Joey Joey (@JoeyJoeyJoeyy) on April 9th 2012

It’s like déjà vu, but longer.

The great success that was Tritonal’s 2011 debut album ‘Piercing The Quiet,’ has gotten a slight re-edit. The 4-5-minute tracks of 2011 have come back in 7-8-minute form in 2012. Alas, Trance DJs, you can finally mix these.

Notable tracks from last years album included ‘Retake,’ ‘Broken Down‘ and ‘Shapes Revolve.’

The duo will be making its Pacha NYC debut on April 19.

Above & Beyond feat. Zoë Johnston – Love Is Not Enough (The Remixes)

By Joey Joey Joey (@JoeyJoeyJoeyy) on April 2nd 2012

Teased last week, we test drove the ‘Love Is Not Enough’ remix package. Officially out today on Beatport are the Kaskade and Major Levi & Bluestone remixes.

Kaskade obviously has the name so expect a lot of hullabaloo over his remix. If your ears are working correctly, the Major Levi & Bluestone remix will be the premiere cut of the litter. More along the lines of true trance rather than progressive trance, Major Levi & Bluestone gather up the best sounds Above & Beyond and Zoë Johnston presented and made a beautiful melody-driven masterpiece.

The experimental remixes by MRZO (aka Mat Zo) and Synkro look to be forever stuck in iTunes.

Above & Beyond feat. Zoë Johnston – Love Is Not Enough (Club Mix)

By Joey Joey Joey (@JoeyJoeyJoeyy) on March 27th 2012

Maybe the next ‘Sun & Moon‘?

Probably not, that track can never be duplicated. However, ‘Love Is Not Enough’ may be in a class all its own.

As per any Above & Beyond release, those in the trance family have eagerly been awaiting its arrival, while mainstream house-heads may casually hear about ‘some trance song’ in a few weeks/months.

‘Love Is Not Enough’ should be getting its due respect. Not only because it’s the latest release from the world’s No. 5 DJs according to DJ Mag, but because the production is beautiful and uplifting.

Why is trance so slept on?

Release Monday on Anjunabeats, ‘Love Is Not Enough’ features an extended mix in addition to the club mix. To go along with its Beatport release, the album version features remixes from Kaskade and Major Levi, among others. Equally outstanding.

Excuse the poor quality, but according to young Arty he just finished this track prior to his set at ASOT 550 in LA and thus the live recording is the only version out there! A collaboration with BT and Nadia Ali, there are no further details on this guy but look for more updates as they come in.

Adastra – When The Stars Fall

By Ambro (@EO_Ambro) on March 15th 2012

Calling all trance lovers! Adastra’s single, “When The Stars Fall”, has just been released on Beatport. The track is a melodic journey through the deeper end of trance, engaging the listener with a raw lead sound, with a grooving electro bass line to fuel the track. This track was played on TyDi’s Global Soundsystem Podcast #122 and certainly one of our favorites from the Adastra crew thus far. Make sure to pick this track up on Beatport here!

Jaytech – Atlantic & Synergy

By Tommybomb on March 14th 2012

Australian progressive/trance DJ Jaytech recently mixed Anjunadeep 04, a showcasing from Above & Beyonds’ imprint label, available on Beatport. During that awesome mix, Jaytech dropped two new bangers, ‘Atlantic’ and ‘Synergy.’

Capturing the essence of Jaytech’s trademark sound but breathing new life into it at the same time, the melodic groover ‘Atlantic’ has already become a favourite of Above & Beyond.

‘Synergy’ is a high energy club bomb that compliments it perfectly and again keeps the focus on the dancefloor without ever losing the music. Bringing together starlit melodies and worming electronic funk, ‘Synergy’ builds a hypnotic atmosphere before perfectly poised pianos ride the waves. Check it out, enjoy ‘em.
