David Guetta/Treasure Fingers @ Pacha NYC 5.20.11 (Review, Videos)

This past Friday was pretty remarkable at Pacha. It was my first time seeing Guetta and I was warned from the start of the night that it would be an absolute zoo in the club. It was worse than a zoo, but the music was exceptional. The night started out with a long opening set from Codes, whose bootleg of ‘Look At Me Now’ was recently posted. Unfortunately myself, Tommie Sunshine, and The Disco Fries showed up about halfway through the next act, Treasure Fingers. The dude was smashing it from the time we got there until he left the booth and Guetta rolled up with his MTV camera crew. Treasure Fingers was playing tasteful disco house that set the stage perfectly for Guetta to wreck Pacha. I found it a bit distasteful how the crowd was chanting Guetta while Treasure Fingers was clearly still mixing, but I guess thats normal? Anyways, click Read More to hear about Guetta’s set and see 4 videos I took from the upper level of Pacha.

Overall, I thought that David is still in the top tier of dance music producers and he has certainly taken the genre on an amazing ride that is far from over. Unfortunately, I think that his DJ sets have suffered just a bit due to his fame. Don’t get me wrong, the music was phenomenal, and he can read the crowd as good as anyone out there. Just take a look at this video of him dropping Nicky Romero’s remix of ‘Flash’…

I just think that he was perhaps testing his tracks for this Summer in Ibiza and not really concentrating too much on the flow of the set. Regardless, he dropped every banger from the last few months, along with playing some of his obnoxiously good bootlegs. By far the biggest bootleg of the night was his classic ‘When Love Takes Over’ mixed with Afrojack’s remix of Chuckie & Silvio Ecomo’s ‘Moombah’. Wow. The place erupted. Guetta still maintains the ability to create the perfect bootlegs (PS-anyone seeing Afrojack this Thursday?). I will let the 2 remaining videos speak for themselves. Bottom line is, Guetta can still pack out any club or venue, and he is still a top tier dance music producer.
