Electric Daisy Carnival NYC: What You Need to Know – The Basics & Friday

The countdown to EDC NYC is quickly winding down and with less than two weeks to go, it is time to shine a spotlight on what each day has to offer. From now until show time we’ll be taking each day and breaking down what sets you can’t afford to skip out on and what we are dying to hear.

The Basics

To start, here is the planned EDC layout. Take note that the main stage is not inside the stadium as one might have expected. And if for some reason you haven’t done so yet, you can still buy tickets here.

Stay hydrated! It could be a long warm day in the Meadowlands. Remember to drink plenty of water, which you won’t have to pay for at the provided free water re-filling stations.

There are a slew of ways to make it to MetLife Stadium. Insomiac has laid them out in great detail, and with thousands of people heading to the festival each day, it is best to plan ahead. Plan your travel details here.

The signature pieces of EDC are its art installations and rides. To further enhance the entire experience, there will be many interactive pieces across the festival grounds that are totally unique to NYC, along with those that have made appearances at past iterations of EDC.

Equally as exciting, to really put the ‘carnival’ into EDC, full-size carnival rides will also be scattered across the MetLife parking lots, including slides, swings, merry-go-rounds and more. Best of all, every single ride is FREE and will be up and running all day and night! All of that alone is pretty exciting, and we haven’t even mentioned the music yet!

Now, let’s dive into Friday after the jump!

With only three tents and a later kick off time, Friday boasts a shortened roster, but no lack of talent.

Who You’ll See

Who You Can’t Miss

Cosmic Gate – Sporting a progressive sound while still staying true to their trance roots, the legendary trance duo have evolved with the times. As heard on their Trance Nation mix, they have delivered some of the best and most supported trance of 2012. It’s more likely than not they will have one of the strongest sets of the entire festival. No joke.

Armin Van Buuren – One of the top 5 DJs in the world for the last who knows how many years. An Armin set is one you will never want to skip, enough said. Check out his amazing set to close out EZF this past September here.

Shy FX – With a career spanning over the past 20+ years, 350+ releases, and the title of ‘one of the original pioneers’ of the the Jungle and Drum & Bass scenes, Shy FX is certainly not an act to be missed.

DJ Craze
– A 2 time DMC DJ champion and head man at the massively successful Slow Roast Records, craze is one of the worlds best turntabilists. His Traktor demo alone has garnered over 3.5 million hits on YouTube. Watch here!

Boris – A living New York legend and basically loved by everyone in the area. Boris filled Pier 93 for after hours New Years Eve by himself after Avicii closed out his night.

Oscar G
-Resident DJ at Pacha NY and one half of the Murk Boys , Oscar G. has remixed the likes of pop stars such as Madonna, Seal, Donna Summer, Jennifer Lopez and Pet Shop Boys. He’s also had his hand in eight Billboard #1’s including club anthems such as “Fired Up” and the ever popular “Dark Beat.”

Under the Radar Performer

Madeon – The 17 year old phoneme has already remixed tracks from Deadmau5 (Raise Your Weapon) and most recently Martin Solveig (The Night Out), played at Ultra and Coachella and toured around Australia. This ‘might not know’ is a bit of a stretch but compiling an already impressive resume, this youngster is not to be over looked.

Who You Can Pass On

Fedde le Grand – This might seem like blasphemy, but Fedde has been all over lately. If you were lucky enough to see him at Ultra or during his recent trip to the Hammerstein Ballroom for Cosmic Opera, don’t be afraid to shy away from the Dutchman’s set. But if this is your first glimpse…do not hesitate to get to the kineticFIELD!
