I am still in utter disbelief regarding this past weekend and how smooth everything went. The music was phenomenal and I was able to snag in-person interviews with DJ’s like Max Vangeli & AN21, Dirty South, and Sunnery James/Ryan Marciano. I will be posting the aforementioned interviews over the course of the week, along with videos and reviews, but for now the Alesso interview I snagged seems most appropriate to post (as his tune “Calling” will be #1 on Beatport any day now). I met him in the media tent for a short Q and A following his mainstage set. More after the jump!
J-Brown: What has been your favorite tune to drop live and why?
Alesso: At the moment “Calling”. Thats a huge one.
J-Brown: What do you like about the New York crowd? Do you feel like people are generally up for it?
Alesso: I love it. I love New York. I mean, they have so much energy. You can see that they are having a really good time. I love it. I really do.
J-Brown: How did the set today on the mainstage differ from last night at Pacha for the after party?
Alesso: Today was a festival so it is always going to differ from a nightclub. Today if you noticed, I played way more big room tracks. I played songs with big sounds, not very deep at all. More like progressive, electronic-sounding tracks.
J-Brown: What was it like to watch your “Pressure” remix get so massive and be supported by close to everyone? How did that remix initially come about?
Alesso: [Laughs] I mean I did not expect that. I just did the remix and I ended up being really happy with it. It sounded exactly how I wanted it to be. There is a lot of love in that remix and I am just so happy that people are enjoying it. The label just asked me to do the remix with Nadia Ali vocals, and her vocals are great.
J-Brown: What is it like to have Sebastian Ingrosso as a mentor?
Alesso: Amazing. You know, he has so much experience and he has been in this business for so long. He is a big influence for me as well. It is really great.
J-Brown: What is the next release for you?
Alesso: The next release is coming out in 1 or 2 weeks. It is a remix I did called “Good Love” by DEVolution. So keep an eye out for that.
Here is his live set from EZF!
