Electric Zoo Festival 2012: What You Need to Know – Friday Hilltop Arena: Group Therapy
This isn’t just the definitive trance tent of the day, but the definitive trance tent of the entire weekend. Sadly, the trance acts are a bit scarce this year. But, to make up for it, the Hiltop Arena, all-day Friday, will feature a ‘who’s who’ of the Anjunabeats world. Under the umbrella (awning, actually) of Above & Beyond’s ‘Group Therapy’ tour, consider it also to be ‘Trance Around The World 440′ live from New York City. Perfect timing.
Before we dive into the in’s and out’s of the Group Therapy tent, don’t forget to check out ALL of EO’s in-depth guides to Electric Zoo 2012. We will be doing one everyday leading up to this year’s festival:

Who You Can’t Miss
Above & Beyond – It’s their tent. Think about that for a moment. OK, a moment’s up. Above & Beyond is in the highest level of the house community and arguably the Godfathers of the trance family (hash tag trance family) along with Armin Van Buuren. They’re world renown for the uplifting, 128 bpm and above style as well as their lack of exposure to the mainstream. Some of the best music of the weekend will be heard when the trio takes to the Hiltop.
Above & Beyond Feat. Zoë Johnston – Love Is Not Enough (Above & Beyond Club Mix)
Mat Zo – Mat Zo is an original production wonder and mash up prince. The 22-year-old Englishman doesn’t make it to New York City as much as other artists, so this would be a prime listening opportunity to take in his work. Too trancey to be progressive and too progressive to be trance, Mat Zo embodies the Anjunabeats sound as well an anyone. ‘Ask yourself, can you dance?’
Mat Zo – Bipolar
Under The Radar Performer
Andrew Bayer – A favorite of Above & Beyond and a staple of their Trance Around The World radio show, Andrew Bayer will turn a surprising amount of heads at Hiltop. Another Anjunabeats henchman, Bayer is known for his exotic productions that can both uplift and progress to madness.
Ane Brun – Undertow (Andrew Bayer Remix)
Who You Can Pass On
Jaytech – Pocket your stones. Don’t throw them just yet. Jaytech is on the Anjunadeep side of things. Not that there is anything wrong with that. In fact, his Anjunadeep 04 mix was phenomenal. It’s just that we don’t quite know how well the experimental music translates to a festival set. It will be a guaranteed change of pace. If you come for the trance, you might not necessarily stay for the deep.
What We Want to Hear
Above & Beyond vs Ferry Tayle Static Blue – Good Trapeze (Moscow System Collision Mashup)
