Electric Zoo Festival 2012: What You Need to Know – Sunday: Riverside

It’s the final countdown…Electric Zoo is a mere two days away and we are hitting the nitty gritty. You’re likely getting jittery, making sure your CamelBak doesn’t have any leaks and picking out your finest tank top in preparation for the festival that marks the crescendo of the perfect house music fueled summer. The Riverside stage on Sunday is an eclectic mix of serious electro (Zedd) and serious dubstep (Zeds Dead) with a mix of everything else in between.

Our guide after the jump!
Who You Can’t Miss
Zedd – Historically, some of the best electro has come from Germany. From vintage-Klass to Finger & Kadel, the Deutsch always seemed to grasp the sound better than any other region. Zedd continues the legacy of his countrymen with music for both the underground and mainstream. Since it appears he has retired the electrified plucking sound (See. Here and here,) he has moved on to more trendsetting electo (See. Here). With an album due out on Oct. 9, it’d be foolish to miss the rising German.

Bart B More – A staff favorite, he has been on a quiet rampage in 2012 producing what he likes to call ‘riot music.’ Earlier this year, he had two productions featured in our Most Anticipated Tracks Of 2012. Both were released to much acclaim from his loyal fan-base. If nothing else, there is always ‘Brap‘ (brap!)

Under The Radar Performer
Congorock – Rule of thumb: if you ever have the opportunity to see an Italian DJ live, do it. Not sure what’s in the mozzarella sticks over there, but their taste for live music seems to be far ahead of the curve. Congorock isn’t just the man who made the gigantic 2010 single ‘Babylon,’ but a whole wave terrifying electro.

Who You Can Pass On
Diplo – Yes, we think Diplo is a talented producer and as a guiding hand behind Mad Decent Records, at the forefront of the marriage between traditionally urban sounds and house music. Also, as half of Major Lazer (along with Switch) Diplo reliably delivers electronic music infused with the rhythmic beats of the islands. But, that being said, we had to throw the Philly native under the bus (gently) given that his live performances in the past have been lackluster, and over the fear that his set will be overly infused with that genre of the moment, trap. Moreover, if the Mad Decent block party is any indication of what sort of a crowd he and his labelmates attrack (read: rowdy) somewhere a little more lowkey may fit the bill.
