Indaba Music Spotlight: INGENIA

Ingenia

This month we shine a light on the music duo INGENIA who won our latest Indaba Music Contest. Bound together by ingenuity Jordi van Burgel and Wouter van den Boogaard decided to combine their skills to become the EDM duo as we know them today. Here’s what the duo had to say:

Electronica Oasis: What first got you in to producing music? How long have you been producing?
Jordi: Besides gaming i have always had a big passion for music. I went to a lot of trance festivals in the time and through those i got inspired to make electronic music myself. I started making music at the age of 19 so have been making music now for 7 years.
Wouter: My mom made me go to music school at the age of 7. It were only theory-classes and i hated it. But after two years i was aloud to take piano-classes as well. I really got into it and at the age of 16 i started to work with a DAW next to my keyboard. I’ve been composing and producing ever since. Now I am 25 years old.

EO: What equipment do you use when producing?
INGENIA: We use Logic-X and make use of a VirusTI. Some of our favorite plug-ins are sylenth, Spire and FM8.
We produce with a Focusrite 24 DSP and have a pair of KrK VXT 8″.

EO:What are your top three songs you’ve made and why?
INGENIA:
We recently finished this amazing remix. We’re proud of this track because the piano riff greatly interferes with the rhythm of the vocal. The drop really makes us move so that’s a good thing.
Jennifer Hudson – It’s your world (Ingenia Remix)

Ingenia – Feel the Rush
We’re proud of this track because the build up with the vocal works great. It was the first track to pass 50k plays on Spotify and Soundcloud and the response on that was great.

Lily Wood & The Prick – Prayer in C (Ingenia Remix)
The lead sound turned out really well. It’s a huge sound with an easy bouncy melody. Rhythm of the melody works well with the vocal we think.

EO: What Artists influence your style the most and why?
INGENIA: We are great fans of Vicetone. We used ‘Stars’ and ‘Heartbeat’ as a reference track a lot and every time we found out that this was really really well produced. We like how Vicetone combines melody and progression with a raw sound. Ludovico Einaudi inspires us with his piano compositions. The way he keeps his compositions interesting with only a few chords is very useful in Progressive house.

EO: What’s your favorite thing about dance music?
INGENIA: That moment before the drop, when we close our eyes, put our hands in the air and put on a difficult face.

EO: If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be? And why?
INGENIA: Ellie Goulding!! What an amazing voice she has! Ellie if you’re reading this… contact us!

EO: Do you play any instruments? How long have you played them for?
Jordi: I only use a DAW. For about 6 years now.
Wouter: I play the piano since i was 10 and started to play guitar a little a couple of years ago.

EO: Where do you see yourself in terms of music in a year from now?
INGENIA: We hope to be making even better tracks and playing on some bigger festivals. And we hope to see ourselves releasing on some major label.

EO: What was the last song you played on your iPod?
Jordi: Bastille – Pompei (Audien Remix)
Wouter: Ben Howard – End of the affair
