NEWS: SFX Entertainment: Electronic Dance Monopoly

As the popularity of Electronic Dance Music grows, the number of independent companies in the business shrinks. SFX Entertainment, the world’s largest producer of events and entertainment focused on electronic music, announced today their acquisition of New York City based production company, Made Events.

“The acquisition of Made is strategically important for SFX, as it establishes a strong foothold for us in the New York City region. Co-founders Mike Bindra and Laura De Palma are the ultimate industry professionals, and our management team will benefit greatly from their years of experience. We plan to develop the Electric Zoo brand internationally and have the opportunity to build other SFX brands in the U.S. with the support of Mike, Laura and the team at Made.” – SFX Chairman and CEO Robert F.X. Sillerman

Despite previously agreeing to acquire 70% of the comapny, SFX acquired all of Made through the deal. Made Events founders Mike Bindra and Laura De Palma feel confident in the merger, citing that SFX has brought together great companies and individuals and provides an insurmountable opportunities within the industry.

SFX was revived in 2012 with a focus on the electronic dance music community. Since then, SFX has acquired ID&T, the famous Dutch promotional company responsible for Tomorrowland, Tomorrowworld, Mysteryland and Sensation, several Miami nightclubs and Beatport, EDM’s online purchasing hub- just to name a few.

As the mainstream-ification and commercialization of the dance music culture has become increasingly unavoidable, it is hard not to feel a little apprehensive about this merger. Us New York-ers who hold Electric Zoo near and dear to our hearts can only hope that this business transaction yields the positive outcomes for Made Events the founders of the brand foresee .
