Skrillex Takes On Miami, Then The World

Skrillex is all over the place these days. He dropped his highly anticipated EP Bangarang just a few weeks ago to critical acclaim, and he’ll be doing an almost week long tour stop in NYC starting Jan. 31 at Webster Hall, followed by Feb. 1 at Pacha, and then two sold out shows Feb. 3 at Roseland Ballroom and Feb. 4 at Terminal 5. New York Magazine wrote about why Skrillex is so beloved in the States and the conclusion is that he creates an atmosphere that mashes together genres and smears it with a dose of good ole fashioned getting messed up and having fun. Can’t go wrong with that formula. Skrillex has helped to make dance music more acceptable among males in the US, instilling it with a “frat dude mentality.” Anyone who has been to an EDM show, particularly a dubstep one, knows that the male to female ratio is vastly skewed towards the former. The music has become attractive to males, as even big room house and progressive now have a lot of elements that are similar to the previous domain of men, heavy metal.

Check out the video and be jealous that you weren’t there to experience the Skrillex effect. Enjoy!
