Los Angeles’ Wiley Webb, who gained notoriety in 2011 with his Beatport hit, ‘Bittersweet Anthem,’ now gives us a mash up of two clashing ends of the music spectrum.
He, himself, filed it under ‘pop step.’ This mash up combines Cascada’s ontz ountz ountz classic ‘Every Time We Touch‘ and Foreign Beggars and Skrillex’s ‘Still Getting It.’
Webb said it was a ‘seamless mash up’ and that couldn’t be more correct. Grab this free download and support Webb by liking his Facebook and following his Soundcloud.

EDM genre-hopping NYC native Udachi recently previewed his ‘OO-DA-CHEE EP’ megamix on his Soundcloud and it’s really just spectacular. The EP, forthcoming on Party Like Us Records, is due out February 14th. (Just in case you don’t know what to get that special DJ in your life for V-Day, this is it!) To see what Udachi is really all about, I suggest you see him live. I can honestly say his show was one of the best I’ve ever been to. You can catch him at the Marlin Room @ Webster Hall next Tuesday, January 31st with Trouble & Bass‘ Willy Joy, and The Captain! (P.S. Skrillex & AC Slater will be upstairs that night as well!)
Holy Ship!, HARD‘s three-day EDM booze cruise just docked from it’s maiden voyage two weeks ago and it was a HUGE success. There are so many ridiculous stories floating around this event such as DJ lessons with A-Trak, a surprise late night set by Rusko and Skrillex (after curfew, mind you), the crazy private island beach party headlined by Fatboy Slim, and that’s only to name a few. As jealous as I am that I wasn’t there, I (and I’m sure all of you) can only be glad that Holy Ship! will be making a return in 2013. Late yesterday, HARD announced that pre-sale tickets for Holy Ship! 2013 are going on sale February 15th!

Skrillex is all over the place these days. He dropped his highly anticipated EP Bangarang just a few weeks ago to critical acclaim, and he’ll be doing an almost week long tour stop in NYC starting Jan. 31 at Webster Hall, followed by Feb. 1 at Pacha, and then two sold out shows Feb. 3 at Roseland Ballroom and Feb. 4 at Terminal 5. New York Magazine wrote about why Skrillex is so beloved in the States and the conclusion is that he creates an atmosphere that mashes together genres and smears it with a dose of good ole fashioned getting messed up and having fun. Can’t go wrong with that formula. Skrillex has helped to make dance music more acceptable among males in the US, instilling it with a “frat dude mentality.” Anyone who has been to an EDM show, particularly a dubstep one, knows that the male to female ratio is vastly skewed towards the former. The music has become attractive to males, as even big room house and progressive now have a lot of elements that are similar to the previous domain of men, heavy metal.
Check out the video and be jealous that you weren’t there to experience the Skrillex effect. Enjoy!
Finally we bring to you the epic release of Zedd – Slam The Door. We previewed this track for you back in December, but now the full bona-fide thing has been released by Skrillex’s own label OWSLA. Zedd has found a home here, following his release of the awesome Shave It in October. Zedd is another one of the young DJs coming out of Europe that are really on our radars in the coming year. Slam The Door again showcases his early electro house influences and will surely inspire you to get up and dance.

I always hate seeing the “much anticipated” title in front of artist’s EP’s or their new singles, but Skrillex‘s new EP definitely deserves the “much anticipated”. The buzz surrounding Sonny Moore is at an all time high. When any EDM musician gets nominated for Grammy’s not only within their realm, but in the overall spectrum of music, it’s a pretty big deal.
Now, back to the topic of this post, this EP rocks. The tracks that feature Sirah (‘Kyoto’, ‘Bangarang’) are both legit but both have been featured in almost all of his recent shows. My particular highlights include his track ‘Summit” with Ellie Goulding. Her voice comes from the heavens and to put it with a down tempo almost prog trance like track is just awesome. I definitely enjoy ‘The Devil’s Den’ with Wolfgang Gartner as well, I love the reggae undertones. All in all, quite impressed.
Stay tuned for more huge news from Sonny Moore because the man has big things planned for 2012 which hopefully includes him bringing home a few Grammy’s.

Coming in at the number 8 spot is Nero’s ‘Promises’ off of their album Welcome Reality. The track blew up overnight and topped the UK Singles Chart at number 1 within the first week of the release! Of course it also reached its way across the globe instantaneously. I feel like whether or not you’re a dubstep fan, ‘Promises’ is a track that every EDM fan can appreciate. Coming in on that soft piano riff with those beautiful lyrics you know its the eye of the storm and Hurricane Nero is ruthless! The drop is a part we all love and EDM fans everywhere just hit the deck and get smacked with bass and awesome sounds everywhere. Nero produced a gem that was really grasped by everyone across the world and we can only hope to see what is next in store for these UK masterminds.
