Imagine it’s the weekend before Easter and Passover and you are stuck in NYC…what would you do? For hundreds of dance music lovers, the Thursday before this observant weekend meant praying at the alter of dBerrie, Funkagenda, Zedd and Fedde le Grand at the storied Hammerstein Ballroom for the second installment of Cosmic Opera.

With massive amounts of hype surrounding the first operatic act in February, with headliner Axwell and support from Deniz Koyu and Thomas Gold, creator Justin Cohen sought to maintain the level of expectation steady for the middle chapter of Cosmic. With a recap video that may have smoothed out some of the kinks that actually existed, the bar was set high going into the last Thursday’s show.

With several improvements being made, including the addition of LED light screens behind the DJ booth, additional speakers for increased volume in the gigantic ballroom and a rare 3D laser installment suspended high above the stage, Cohen had clearly worked to respond to naysaying comments stemming from February’s shows asserting that Cosmic Opera just wasn’t as special as he had promised it to be.

EVENT: Cosmic Opera Act II: Imbroglio on Thursday and Friday @ Hammerstein Ballroom

By J-Brown (@EO_JBrown) on April 3rd 2012

cosmic EVENT: Cosmic Opera Act II: Imbroglio on Thursday and Friday @ Hammerstein Ballroom
Cosmic Opera is back with their second installment, and the line up is as eclectic as it is awesome. Fedde Le Grand is headlining both nights, with big support from Funkagenda, Zedd, Felix Cartal, and 2 EO favorites: Matt Goldman and David Berrie who is playing under his progressive alias, dBerrie. Coming off the massive success of Act I, Act II aims to be a bigger production and hit harder. It is pretty clear that the line up reflects the new direction of Act II. Cosmic Opera founder Justin Cohen has gone on to say “As it would be for a true Italian opera, our first Act was an overture. It was the initial combination of opera, theater and EDM. In Act II we will continue to build the event series and go deeper to explore the possibilities of Cosmic Opera with Imbroglio.” Below you will find dBerrie’s remix of Gotye’s chart-topper: a song that Fedde Le Grand recently dropped at Ultra Music festival. You will 100% hear this track. Buy tickets for this momentous event HERE for Thursday and HERE for Friday.

EVENT: Ken Loi Slated to Rock Electric Beach @ Santos Party House Saturday 4/7

4.7.12 EVENT: Ken Loi Slated to Rock Electric Beach @ Santos Party House Saturday 4/7
It seems that as the weather gets more agreeable, the electronic music offerings get more and more stellar every weekend. The upcoming weekend is no exception, with two installments of Cosmic Opera Part II Friday and Saturday and the Refune family led by Sebastian Ingrosso making waves, Saturday can seem a long way off. But Santos has a very special headlining star this Saturday, April 7 as bootleg master Ken Loi travels from the left coast to grace the stage of Electric Beach.

Ken has been coming out strong, with his ‘Play Me‘ EP being released at the end of February and a solo Supercuts commercial. Ken’s headlining debut promises to be even more wild than the already out of control parties that regularly occur Saturday nights at Santos.

Watch out this week for an exclusive chance from EO to see Ken for free! Further entrance info will be available HERE on the Santos website.

or simply press this button below:

Easy peazy, eh?

The lucky winner will get tickets to Thursday’s show which features headliner Fedde Le Grand along with Zedd, Funkagenda and dBerrie.

The winner will be contacted on Saturday–hopefully it’ll go something like this. All participants must be following us on Twitter.

If you’ve never witnessed Le Grand live, you must. A master of many production styles and DJ-extraordinaire (four CDJ’s,) he has been a favorite of the Pacha NYC-circuit. We checked him out back in December with Deniz Koyu and were blown away.

Adding him plus a supporting cast of heavyweights on the Cosmic Opera platform will be gigantic. Perhaps stronger than the Axwell show that haulted New York last month.

What are you doing still reading?

Go. Now.

REVIEW: Phantom of the Cosmic Opera

By MichelleKUPP (@MichelleKUPP) on February 27th 2012

Cosmic Crowd REVIEW: Phantom of the Cosmic Opera

Cosmic Opera came to New York City for two nights last week in the debut edition of the three-part series. Created with the idea of incorporating the theatrical nature of the opera into an electronic music concert, event organizer Justin Cohen sought to bring a new element to an experience that has become routine for many road-weary fans.

More reminiscent of David Guetta’s extravagant ‘F*ck Me I’m Famous’ show, which the superstar DJ regularly produces in Ibiza and recently brought to NYC, than an actual opera, Cosmic had the feeling of an adult circus in a space dripping with roving costumed performers and ribbon dancers dangling from the soaring ceilings of Hammerstein Ballroom.

Ahead of Friday’s show German producer and DJ Thomas Gold, who opened for headliner and Swedish House Mafia member Axwell, expressed his anticipation for the uniqueness of Cosmic Opera’s promised production. Gold also let on about a specially edited opening track made to match the melodic nature of the opera – which turned out to be a re-work of his already beautiful instrumental remix of Lady Gaga – Judas.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Thomas Gold

By MichelleKUPP (@MichelleKUPP) on February 24th 2012

TG EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Thomas Gold

Thomas Gold has the right to be amped. Tonight he will be opening for Axwell during the evening’s edition of Cosmic Opera, the much hyped ultra-sensory experience that promises to weave elements of operatic tradition with electronic music. EO will be there to cover, but to put everyone even more on the edge of their seats about what to expect, Thomas sat down to discuss a bit about the event and what is going on in his world in general.

The Berlin-based producer just recently released his much lauded track with Dirty South & Kate ElsworthEyes Wide Open‘ following the great success of ‘Alive.’ The two started out being pals but found their synergy in the studio to work well and they will be playing together in Miami – definitely expect new, cool tracks to come out of that collaboration. ‘Sing 2 Me,’ one of EO’s Most Anticipated Tracks for 2012, might even be a part of that roster. Don’t hesitate – hear what Thomas has to say below!
