This week’s Tech Tuesday comes from DJ/producers Laidback Luke & Gina Turner under their lesser-known Nouveau Yorican alias. Focused on releasing latin-inspired New York house, their newest work ‘Quiere Mas’ finds it way to your ears via Riva Starr’s Snatch Records. Huge percussion elements, impact chords and spanish vocals compliment each other well, displaying clear studio dominance these two share.

Starting the week off with some Gina Turner sounds might be the best decision you can make. Here’s a mix she did in preparation for Holy Ship, which for those who don’t know is a rave on a boat. If you haven’t seen Gina spin before, please make arrangements; she has the tech house genre on lock.
“Namaste literally means the light within me honors the light within you, so this mix wont be just Yoga or chanting jams…it will be honoring the artists on the Holy Ship Line up! Now as you know I’ll be teaching a yoga class on the ship, so I also wanted to do a mix that reflected the style of yoga that I do…it’s POWER FLOW. So although there’s always a gentle rhytmic flow to the movements, there’s also a POWER and strength aspect! JUST LIKE THIS MIX, HARD BUT flowing like the waves in the ocean.”

While most people were recovering from either of the major Swedish House Mafia gigs this weekend, my friend Rocco and I headed down to Webster Hall for a late performance from DJ Gina Turner and Alexander Technique. After working our way through the maze that is Webster Hall, an elaborate gold backdrop signified we had found the right room. Starting around 1:30am after some mixer issues, the drums began to blare. If you haven’t seen Gina Turner spin before you’re missing out; the assembly line of tech house bombs played was a welcomed variation to what you’d normally hear on a Saturday night. Some stand outs were her collaboration with Junior Sanchez & Alexander Technique out now on Ministry of Sound titled ‘Unreal‘, an insane ‘Original Don’ edit you can watch below, as well as the Junior Sanchez “Really Cares House Mix” of Drake & Rihanna’s ‘Take Care‘. The event was run through Hanky Panky (Webster Hall) and featured a solid soundsystem; definitely a space I’ll be paying attention to for future shows.
