The two trance veterans fuse their talents to create a harder sound, moving between trance and house within the track. “Romper” can command big dance floors, which makes sense since the two began playing as New World Punx in large arenas, including A State of Trance at Madison Square Garden. It’s not the pure, melodic trance listeners might associate with the two DJs on their own, but together they’ve created an entirely new persona and a fresh tune to go with it.

Dutch EDM veteran Ferry Corsten and electronic duo Bassjackers share production duties on their new release, Collision. Collision is a bass heavy, pumping electro-house song with refreshing moments of melodic bliss that is sure to have the dancefloor shaking. Ferry Corsten is iconic for trance driven records, but he strays far from trance on this track and instead delivers an electro-house sound that is much more geared towards Bassjackers’ typical productions. Collision follows up Bassjackers’ last release, the equally bass driven Grid, which was a collabration with up and coming Dutch producer Dyro. Bassjackers recently had a massive performance at Ultra Music Festival, and is continuing their ongoing tour with shows throughout Europe.

A State of Trance radio has been a staple to trance legends, Armin Van Buuren, career since it started 13 years ago. The power of a radio show was always something that Armin appreciated and with that he sought out the opportunity to start his own massive weekly show. As years passed, ASOT’s fan base grew more and more creating a global wide community that would religiously tune in – as well as being the most live tuned in radio show on the Digitally Imported network. The beauty of ASOT is not only the way Armin pieces each show together, but the way he uses this show to showcase talents that he feels need to be given more attention. History shows that each ASOT tour is always magical addition as he handpicks monumental line-ups consisting of a powerful collective of trance DJs. Now, ASOT is coming to the mammoth MSG and bringing our favorites – Alex. M.o.r.p.h., Markus Shulz & Ferry Corsten (New World Punx), and W&W.

Whenever Armin van Buuren announces that he is coming to town, it’s big news, just as it was when the announcement came out that he was going to be performing at Lavo for DJ Mag’s annual celebration party. The king of trance and Armada Label boss has now been named DJ Mag’s #1 DJ for a record 5 times, and has become the first DJ to re-claim the title after dropping to the second slot for one short year. The past month has been an extremely busy one for Armin, between live broadcasting from the Amsterdam Dance Event to announce the locations of A State of Trance 600, to the whirlwind tour of shows he has embarked upon for DJ Mag since being named #1.
Given that Armin’s show in NY was slated for Lavo, the inevitable grumbles from hard core trance heads and Armin fanatics were palpabable, but tickets were available for the show and the effective crowd that managed to mosey their way into the subterranean club was attired in a suitable mix of bandage dresses and trance family t-shirts. Although Armin started off a bit commercial, his set wove a lyrical narrative that showcased the skills that have made him a top producer, DJ and advocate for trance music over the span of his career. Earlier this week, when this year’s DJ Mag Top 100 rankings were released, I have to say I was pretty excited.
Not because I was curious to see the rankings of 2012′s explosive newcomers like Hardwell and Skrillex, not to know whether the initial leaked rankings matched up to the real ones, and no, not to find out if Armin Van Buuren surpassed David Guetta to regain his title as the world’s number one DJ.
I was excited for the reaction that would follow, to have artists, fans, writers, critics, everyone that plays a part within the electronic music ecosystem, give perspective on the same issue.
More on why the DJ Mag Top 100 matters after the jump…
British trance veteran Lange is back with the beautifully uplifting track ‘We Are Lucky People’, officially released yesterday on Lange Recordings. Reverting back to his roots, ‘We Are Lucky People’ is a melodious, all instrumental piece with Lange’s signature gradual builds and warm, progressive sound.
Welcome to trance Thursdays with a free download from Austin based producers Tritonal. The duo took the vocals from their track ‘Let Solitude’ and mashed them over Audien’s ‘Eventide,’ released earlier this year on Anjunabeats. What can be better than a free download to celebrate the day that trance built, especially from such a talented duo as Tritonal. Check them out Thanksgiving Day when they hit NYC.
Ferry Corsten played to the loyals in the trance Group Therapy tent Friday. Despite all the recent controversy surrounding his Justin Bieber remix, his set was a well rounded mix of newer progressive and some classic trance (hello BRUTE). Thanks for keeping it real, Ferry.
