iTunes’ ‘Best New Dance Artist’ of 2011 Katy B will be performing this Wednesday, January 25th at 9PM at Drom. She has appeared on Magnetic Man tracks ‘Crossover’ and ‘Perfect Stranger’ and released her debut studio album ‘On a Mission’ last year. Her album was produced by Benga, Geeneus, Zinc, and Magnetic Man with singles reaching #1 on the UK charts. This event is definitely something you don’t want to miss! Grab tickets here!
Another month has come and gone, and Electronica Oasis has put together its Top 10 tracks for the month of October. Skrillex clearly had the best month for October having taken over the Beatport top 10 for the entire last week. But we can’t make the whole playlist Skrillex, can we? We must be fair to some of the other artists and some of the great work they put out this month. Wolfgang put 300 hours into his song ‘Illmerica‘ and it truly shows, which is why we are giving him the #1 vote. The overall sound of the entire track is flawless. Skrillex comes in at #2 with ‘Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites‘ which has reigned the top of the Beatport charts since it’s release. Michael Woods follows at #3 proving that his name is not going anywhere. Each track he is producing is getting every dancefloor moving. Dada Life with their release of ‘Unleash the Fucking Dada‘ hits the #4 spot with it’s insanely crispy and hard electro noise. Great remixes by Steve Angello, Avicii and Laidback Luke bring their names back to the top 10 chart again as usual, while Porter Robinson finally breaks into the scene with his devastating electro sound.
Last week Magnetic Man released a jam called Perfect Stranger featuring Katy B, whose vocals are substantially above par in my opinion. I’m also a big fan of the beat through out much of this song, something significantly different from the standard bass/snare and cymbol offbeat which dominates much of the EDM scene (you know what I’m talking about, right?) It’s great to see such strong original work which only leaves the field open for artists like Steve Angelo to continue to do what he always does. Awesome remix. From there, you have Benga’s remix which incorporates an aggressive dubstep sound. Definitely a nice array of genre’s here across several types of house, all stemming from the original mix.
