PREVIEW: Zedd – Clarity (Tiësto Remix)

Tijs Michiel Verwest, better known as Tiesto, has been at the forefront of the dance music scene for over a decade. Throughout his career, the Dutch juggernaut has produced classics such as ‘Lethal Industry’, ‘Traffic’, and ‘Adagio For Strings’ just to name a few. Although Tiesto’s production style has changed over the past few years, switching it up from his usual deep trance to more upbeat progressive tracks, he still continues to blow fans away with every original production or remix he releases.
‘Break My Fall’, featuring the vocals of American musician BT, is an amazingly upbeat track with the classic trance sound of Tiesto. The single was originally released in April 2007 on Ultra Records, and was also included on Tiesto’s Elements Of Life album (2007), as well as his greatest hits album (up to that point), Magikal Journey(2010).

After just celebrating his 44th birthday last week, the big dog Tiësto is back with a new release and video for Passion Pit, a favorite amongst remixers these days. The track “Carried Away” is laced with trademark Tijs big-room progressive synths with the hands-in-the-air euphoria we’ve come to expect as of late from the Dutch kingpin. After taking on remix projects for The Naked & The Famous and Youngblood Hawke last year, it’s evident that Tiësto has mastered the ability to preserve the important vocal elements of indie dance while blowing up the basslines for the main stage.
And if we can learn anything from the video, it’s that if you eat colored sand and ingest a match, you’ll explode into five doppleganger versions of yourself. Take notes kids.

“Sweet Nothing” is one of those singles that you know will be flooded through the radio airwaves, even though it is still to be released on Calvin Harris‘ upcoming album, 18 Months. Maybe it’s the radio friendly hook, the hypnotic voice of Florence (of “+ The Machine” fame), or the combined star power of both names on the track. Either way, the single has received the remix treatment from Tiësto. He doesn’t stray far from his classic big-room formula, but put together with Florence’s angel vocals, it’s a powerful release to look forward to.
Check out the preview clip that kicked off Annie Mac’s Radio1 show last week – might we add Florence isn’t the only angelic voice to grace this clip.
Looks like Dutch duo Firebeatz are continuing their hot streak, this time teaming up with Schella to bring you the scorching electro bomb, ‘Dear New York’. With its distorted, pulverizing bass and breaks influenced beats, combined with a vocal sample from the Beastie Boys ‘An Open Letter to NYC’ (RIP MCA), ‘Dear New York’ is as gritty and grimey as the insomniac city itself.
Already supported by Sander von Doorn and Tiësto (who both fittingly dropped it at Electric Zoo), don’t be surprised if this massive track continues to pop up in live sets and podcasts this fall.
