Top 25 Tracks of 2011 Countdown: #02 Arty & Mat Zo – Rebound

There is one thing to understand about our #2 track of the year; ‘Rebound’ is more than a song, it is an experience.

Starting from the intro’s echoing toms, through the grinding bass line that leads into a euphoric breakdown, up to Arty’s signature drum roll which carries into an unforgettable drop (seriously might be the best ever), these auditory wizards take the listener on an aural adventure that has set the bar well above anything of recent memory. Although the track evolves in so many ways over the the course of its 7 plus minutes, it never feels disorganized or repetitive, everything is in perfect balance and just makes sense…it’s the perfect song.

Above and Beyond’s Tony McGuinness recently suggested Arty and Mat Zo were the duo of the year, a just title that may continue to be true when considering their latest collaboration ‘Mozart.’ ‘Rebound’ also received wide spread praise across genres and picked up the title of Trance Around The World web vote winner three weeks in a row. Along with that, ‘Rebound’ was voted the #7 track of the year on Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance 540.

‘Rebound’ was also the origninal track used in the now viral ‘Jian Sword Dancing‘ video, which Diplo adapted for the Major Lazer – Original Don ft. The Partysquad video.

While it may not have garnered the mainstream media attention of some other tracks on this countdown, ‘Rebound’ might not have been the “biggest” but is easily the best song of 2011…and maybe of some time before that.

So stop what you’re doing, get up, and relive this epic journey of sound.
